What is Nasya Therapy?

Nasya therapy, also known as Nasya Karma, is a traditional Ayurvedic treatment involving the administration of medicated oils or herbal formulations through the nasal passages. It is primarily used to detoxify and strengthen the head and neck region.

Why is Nasya Therapy Recommended?

The nose is the direct gateway to the brain and head organs (*Nasa Hi Shiraso Dvaram*). Nasya clears sinus channels, relieves headaches, improves memory, and sharpens sensory perception.

Therapeutic Mode of Action

  • Positioning: Patient lies down comfortably with head slightly tilted back.
  • Cleansing Passages: Nasal passages cleaned with warm saline or herbal steam to remove excess mucus.
  • Application: Practitioner gently administers medicated oils (Shadbindu, Anu Taila, Brahmi) through nostrils.
  • Retention & Absorption: Patient retains head position for a few minutes for deep mucosal absorption into cranial channels.
  • Post-Care: Rest in calm environment, warm water gargling, and avoiding cold wind or dust.
